Featured Project: A Lousiana Low Country Residence Embraces the Natural Terrain

There's so much to love about this feature project! The architectural detailing of the house takes its inspiration from the architecture of the Louisiana low-country. This is especially apparent on the porch with its exposed rafters with decorative rafter tails and deep eaves, plank board ceiling, turned wood columns, simple picket railing, and stain-grade mahogany French doors with segmental transoms.

The building site consisted of a dramatic rock outcropping on a steep hillside overlooking a broad lawn located in a flood plain. Rather than work against the natural landscape, our team embraced it. The home was specifically designed to take advantage of this situation by arranging the first floor to open onto an upper rear terrace carved from the living rock. The lower terrace opens on the other side of the house onto the broad lawn.

The result is a stunning residence that enjoys sweeping views from nearly every room.
