As Seen In: Modern Luxury Shines Spotlight on Recent Project
A Study In Refinement
This new-build home, designed by architect William T. Baker, embodies a cozy cottage ambiance while still remaining fresh and modern. Christy Dillard Kratzer’s purposeful design beautifully marries the woodsy mood with a contemporary take. In the primary bathroom, earthy tones and tactile materials brought a sense of groundedness to the space. Intimate while still remaining spacious, the bathroom serves as a retreat. Intentional details such as the handforged iron fixtures, brass and gold accents, and hardware add an elevated rustic element to the space.
“A favorite architectural feature of the bathroom is the barrel vault ceiling, which adds a lofty and airy feel to the space, as well as mimicking the curved shape of the large window,” says Kratzer. The abundance of natural light, dark tile and warm wood tones highlight the architectural curve of the high ceiling. “Charcoal-toned tile was selected for the shower wall tile to create a private oasis, where one can enjoy a nice steam shower,” comments Kratzer. Classical, yet modern, moody yet bright, this bathroom strikes just the right balance.
