Classical architecture is never boring when Mr. Murrah is involved.
His designs take a traditional flavor, transforming ideas into floor plans
filled with open spaces and a multitude of windows for maximum light,
higher ceilings for spaciousness and natural materials for open and bright
feeling. Creating traditional residential architecture, combined with the
conveniences of a modern lifestyle is Mr. Murrah's forte.
Atlanta born, Mr. Murrah interned with one of the foremost classical architects
in Atlanta while earning his architectural degree from Georgia Tech.
Inspired by all that he was taught and exposed to, Mr. Murrah continued
on to receive his Master of Architecture degree, establishing his own studio
in 1990. His list of credentials and achievements are many, some of which
include being a registered architect licensed in Connecticut, Florida,
Georgia, North Carolina and South Carolina as well as a member of
NCARB. His residential designs have been featured in national and local
publications such as Atlanta Customs Homes, Atlanta Homes & Lifestyles,
Dream Homes of Georgia and Better Homes & Gardens magazines.
Mr. Murrah's homes reflect a traditional style, giving his imprint to each design
such as grand porches and majestic columns evoking a quality that will
still look current 20 years from now. These timeless designs are elements
rooted in Classicism and are perfect for historical urban neighborhoods.
He also has expertise designing historically accurate renovations and
additions for turn-of-the-century neighborhoods. Building upon what is
already there, improving the exterior, expanding an interior, updating and
reworking are challenges that he welcomes. He thrives on taking a well-
built home, re-engineering it and designing additions to accommodate the
changing needs of the homeowners.
Ideas begin on paper and are then developed into renderings for
presentation. His clients are of various ages and backgrounds, most with
a good understanding of their needs. Families come to his firm with an
appreciation for traditional architecture.
With a passion for international travel, Mr. Murrah brings a wealth of ideas
to the table. This knowledge influences his design elements such as
creating an outdoor courtyard space with European flair, an intimate
fireplace based on a centuries-old villa, incorporating exquisite Old World
details integrated into classical style of architecture are common elements
you will find in his work.
